How to do a Hot Oil Treatment at home? It's not as hard as you think. First let's discuss the benefits of a hot oil treatment. Most importantly, it moisturizes your scalp and prevents dry hair. It also keeps away dandruff and minimizes breakage and frizz. And lastly, it adds shine, stimulates growth and promotes soft hair. Some oils that can be used for a Hot Oil Treatment are of course the prepackaged oil mixes you can find in your local drug store or beauty supply. But if you are wanting to mix your own recipe according to what your personal hair type is in need of, then some of these may be what you decide to choose...Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Castor Oil, Tea Tree Oil or Jojoba Oil. To start heat a bowl of water. Place your oil of choice, in its container, into the bowl for 3 to 5 minutes. This will help to thin out the oil and make the application easier. Next, part your hair into 4 sections. For natural hair try doing this with damp hair. For relaxed hair, the hair can be dry. Its up to you :) Working with one section at a time, apply the oil generously to your scalp first. Continue working down the shaft of your hair until you get to the ends. Twist each section so that it will fit under a shower cap as you let it sit for 30 minutes or so. You can sit under a dryer on low heat if you prefer. Finally, wash out the oil with a shampoo and do a deep condition on your hair, leaving it on for about an hour under a plastic cap. Rinse and style as normal. You should see a difference right away! You can repeat this once a month or more often if your hair needs it. This is also great for using on your scalp if you have braids!
