Want to know how to dip and seal your braids (box braids)? Keep reading….After you have finished installing your braids you will notice that they feel stiff and a little hard. Most likely you used the Kanekalon type of braiding hair. This hair is the most popular when it comes to braiding hair. At the end of the installation if you left the ends loose, they will be puffy and kinky. To get the ends of the hair to relax like the picture to the left and soften the braids, first you will need to boil a pot of water. You will also need a towel and a cup with a handle that can withstand the hot temperature of the water. For this method you will need someone else helping you. After your water has boiled, pour it into a plugged up sink. You can do multiple pots of water if you like. Split your braids down the middle from front to back because you will only be working with one half at a time. Put one half of your braids into the sink with boiling water. Now this is where your help comes in because the entire length of the braid will not reach all the way into the water. Your help with take the cup and dip it into the water and pour the water on the higher part of the braids, making sure not to pour any on your scalp. Repeat this until you feel that all the braids have been saturated as high as you can go. Then slowly raise your head from out of the sink, immediately wrapping a towel around the braids but keeping them in a straight down position. Began to pull the towel down the length of the braids while squeezing to help dry and straighten the ends. Repeat this step on the other side. To keep this straight look make sure the braids dry in the straight down position. Any bends during the drying process will cause the braids to have a permanent curl or kink. You can remove these by repeating the dipping process. Now because you were not able to dip all the way to the very top of your head, you may have some frizzes up there. A hot shower with lots of steam will help to relax those. Finally your style is complete! Your ends are sealed, relaxed looking and your braids are soft with lots of movement. You should not have any unraveling but feel free to repeat this method to touch up the style every few weeks. :)
