Are you noticing that the ends of your hair are splitting, thinning, even breaking off? If you use a lot of heat on your hair, then that could be the culprit. Heat is not our friend when it comes to styling but most of us can't get away from it. Try a heat protectant on your hair to protect it from current and future damage. There are quite a few choices of protectants. Whether you want to use a popular brand or a natural one, they all do pretty much the same thing. Application of the product may vary from spraying it on your hair right before you put heat on it, to applying the protectant after washing but before blowdrying. There are those that include keratin oil for strength and shine, while also providing the heat protectant element. The price can be as inexpensive as $3 on up to $30. So choose the product that best fits your needs. In the end, your hair is your "crown" so protect it!

You are about to travel or catch a flight and have just finished doing your hair and don't have time to wait for the straightener or curling iron to cool down. You need to pack it but it's too hot. So you carry it while blowing it and getting burnt because now you are driving while holding it. Or you go ahead and stick it in your bag and it melts something! Did you know that there is a heat resistant case that you can purchase for your straighteners and curling irons? They are fairly inexpensive, comes in an array of colors and your hair tools can be immediately put inside this case after unplugging! It's the best thing ever! When I am done with a clients hair, sometimes on location, this makes clean up quicker and easier for me, not having to wait for tools to cool down. You can find this heat resistant case almost anywhere. Just look in the beauty section :)
If you are looking to cut your own hair at home make sure you invest in a pair of shears. Regular scissors are not good for cutting hair. They are not sharp enough and are not made to easily fit your hands with the type of motions you do in hair cutting. A good pair of shears are sharp and will fit on your thumb and pointer finger. These limbs are the main ones used when cutting hair as they allow you to continuously cut while your wrist is moving in many directions. Hair is sometimes wet when cutting so try to purchase ones that are stainless steel. They won't rust! :) Shears are fairly inexpensive. They usually start at $5 and then go up from there.
How to do a Hot Oil Treatment at home? It's not as hard as you think. First let's discuss the benefits of a hot oil treatment. Most importantly, it moisturizes your scalp and prevents dry hair. It also keeps away dandruff and minimizes breakage and frizz. And lastly, it adds shine, stimulates growth and promotes soft hair. Some oils that can be used for a Hot Oil Treatment are of course the prepackaged oil mixes you can find in your local drug store or beauty supply. But if you are wanting to mix your own recipe according to what your personal hair type is in need of, then some of these may be what you decide to choose...Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Castor Oil, Tea Tree Oil or Jojoba Oil. To start heat a bowl of water. Place your oil of choice, in its container, into the bowl for 3 to 5 minutes. This will help to thin out the oil and make the application easier. Next, part your hair into 4 sections. For natural hair try doing this with damp hair. For relaxed hair, the hair can be dry. Its up to you :) Working with one section at a time, apply the oil generously to your scalp first. Continue working down the shaft of your hair until you get to the ends. Twist each section so that it will fit under a shower cap as you let it sit for 30 minutes or so. You can sit under a dryer on low heat if you prefer. Finally, wash out the oil with a shampoo and do a deep condition on your hair, leaving it on for about an hour under a plastic cap. Rinse and style as normal. You should see a difference right away! You can repeat this once a month or more often if your hair needs it. This is also great for using on your scalp if you have braids!

Looking for a shampoo and conditioner to strengthen your hair and keep it straight longer? If you are natural you know that straightening your hair is a lot of work just for it to start to curl back up a few days later. To keep away from harsh chemicals such as perms that straighten the hair permanently for a long period of time, some people are turning to Keratin Treatments. Keratin Treatments in the salon can cost hundreds of dollars! But a shampoo and conditioner by ORGANIX called "Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy" will help you achieve similar results. You will notice that your hair straightens better, feels stronger, has lots of movement, has a healthy sheen and stays straight longer! Just make sure that when you use the conditioner, you give yourself a deep condition by letting it sit on your hair for at least an hour with a shower cap on.
Clip-in hair extensions are a fun way to experience having a weave without it being permanent! You want to make your hair more full or just lengthen it, or maybe you just want to add some color to change your style up without dying it. Clip-in hair extensions are easy to install. You get anywhere between 7 to 9 pieces in a pack which is enough for a full head installation. They are just wefts with hair clips attached to them. Each piece will have 1 to 4 clips attached to them. You part your hair where you want the extension to go, open the clips on the extension, tuck the clips on the hair where you made the part, and then press the clips closed. And in just a few minutes you have a weave. There are lots of videos on the internet to show you step by step on how to do this. Check this one out here! So enjoy a weave without the permanency!
